Leigh Ann Pusey was appointed to the position of president and CEO of the American Insurance Association (AIA) on February 1, 2009.
A veteran of the insurance industry, Ms. Pusey joined AIA in December 1996. Over the course of her tenure with the association, she has assumed various roles including Senior Vice President for Federal Affairs and before that as Senior Vice President for Public Affairs. Most recently, Ms. Pusey served both as Chief Operating Officer and as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs where she was responsible for the management and operation of the association’s government affairs department, directing a staff of professional lobbyists who represent AIA before Congress and in the states on all matters of interest to the property-casualty insurance industry.
Prior to AIA, Ms. Pusey served in a number of influential positions. She was the communications coordinator for U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA); the deputy director of communications for the Republican National Committee from 1993-1994, a Deputy Assistant to President George H.W. Bush for the White House Office of Public Liaison; and the Coalitions and Organization Director at the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Ms. Pusey is a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband and their two children.
